Crocodiles have inhabited our planet for two hundred million years. Living in Zihuatanejo, the Crocodylus Acutus is a species that can grow to 7 meters in length, which is protected by Mexican Law NOM-ECOL-059-1994.
Its snout is relatively long and thin with a visible fourth tooth in the jaw, even when it keeps its mouth shut. Its body is large, wide, yet skeek, and covered with large scales reinforced by bone and along the dorsal spine and the tail, these scales can be quite large. Its tail is compact and its legs quite stubby. It has a white belly and the rest of its body is gray-toned in adults and gray and green in the young, generally covered with black spots on its torso and tail.
When it immerses itself in the water, which it can take up to an hour to do, the crocodile can shut-valves over it nostrils, seal its ears, and it protects its eyes with tranparent eyelids.
At La Ropa beach, they can be observed in a marsh, in Ixtapa, at the golf course, at Linda Beach they can be found in a fenced off lake. They have also been known to inhabit along the bike path.
It is important to emphasize that no attacks on human beings have been reported in this region by this species.
