Latin Wings Surf Contest in Ixtapa

On the beaches of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo from the 6th to the 9th of September 2007, the 70 best Latin American surfers will be given the chance to compete for the Latin Wings Surf championship.
Mexico gets its turn to host prime surfing events, following the examples of Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, and the Bahamas. Over 100 surfers from 15 countries will compete in open (women & men), youth, and longboard categories for $17,000 split amongst the top 3 finishers.

The field of competitors brags 20 Mexicans in the open category: Diego Cadena, Cale Carranza, Ángelo Lozano, Ernesto Medina, José Manuel Trujillo, and Raúl Medina. Diego Cadena should place in the top 10.

Fortunately, ‘Las Escolleras’ is the beach that has been chosen because this time of year it has the best waves and breeze that favors the competitors. There should be waves 10-13 ft. tall.

This internationally renowned event benefits our community in that it is a planned event that we hold each year that gives us the opportunity to show that part of being an attractive tourist destination is focusing on watersports.
